Silverado Power Steps
Among the latest line of full-size pick up trucks introduced by General Motors, the 2008 Chevy Silverado is definitely the car company's best-selling model. It is considered the strongest and most dependable truck on the road today. And why is that? For starters,
safety features include driver and passenger front air bags, tire pressure monitoring system and four-wheel antilock disc brakes. Its safety features are so good that the Silverado received a 5-star rating in frontal crash tests.
The 2008 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab 2WD is a 4-door, up to 6-passenger full size pickup, available in 5 trims, ranging from the Work Truck Short Box to the LTZ Short Box. As in the previous year, the half-ton 2008 Silverado 1500 sits on a wider, full-size truck platform designed for improved handling and a smoother ride. It also sports the more rugged exterior design introduced in 2007, as well as the updated interior that offers a number of configuration options.
There are a total of 6 (!) engines to choose from: the standard 195-horsepower, 4.3-liter V6 to a range of optional V8 engines, including 4.8-liter, 5.3-liter, and 6.0-liter V8s, and either standard gasoline or FlexFuel options. The 5.3-liter and 6.0-liter V8s come equipped with an Active Fuel Management system that shuts down four of the eight cylinders at cruising speeds to conserve fuel. All engines link to a Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission designed for smooth, quiet shifting. The transmission comes equipped with a Tow/Haul mode.
As for the trim style, drivers can choose from a wide array (three dozens in all). These include WT (Work Truck), LS, LT, and LTZ trim levels, and regular, extended, and crew cab lengths. Extended-cab trims come equipped with rear doors that open 170 degrees for easy accessibility. The StabiliTrak electronic stability control system comes standard on crew cab trims and can be selected as an option on some extended-cab trims. There is also a wide variety of suspensions to choose from: a Handling/Trailering suspension, which comes standard on the LT and LTZ trims, and an off-road suspension, optional on the same trims.
In fine, the Chevy Silverado 1500 gets the driver's thumbs up because of its acceleration, smooth ride, handling, quietness, fuel economy, and value. And while not equally important, features such as OnStar and XM satellite radio make the ride even more enjoyable for dirvers and passengers alike. Overall,
